Staff and Volunteers
General Manager: Bob Sommer- Arrived in Barrow over four years ago, But he is no stranger to the Alaska bush. In over 20 years in the Bush, Bob has worked in radio and TV in Bethal, Galena and Kodiak. Also has helped other stations throughout the state. Bob served on the Galena City Council for 6 years and was also its Vice-Mayor. He has also served as a member of Search & Rescue, Fire Department and Emergency Communications in Various communities throughout the state. He served for 10 years on the Board of Directors of the Alaska Broadcasters Association and was its President in 1999-2000. Bob is responsible for all aspects of the radio station.
Inupiat Translator: James Patkotak- As of this date, May 23, 2006 James is currently a volunteer disc jockey and
also translate the information files into the Inupiat language for the
listeners. James is looking forward to work fulltime for our local radio station which is
the "Voice of the North" for many people.
Production Manager: Isaac Tuckfield -
Development Director: Jason Gilbert - Jason has been with KBRW for just over a year. He works closely with the general manager on the daily operations of KBRW. His primary responsibility is paying the bills and fundrasing. Jason is also involved in many different organization with in the communty. Jason also is a fireman and EMS responder for our local Fire Department. Jason is also involved in coaching our high school wrestling team and our new high school football team.
Operations Manager: Kai Saxton- Kai's responsibilities are to play play play music for you the community. Everyday Kai plays the newest hits from the KBRW collection. He starts at 2:30 pm to help push you through the mid after noon blues.
News Director: Janelle Everett-
Morning News: Earl Finkler- Earl starts his day every morning at 4:00 am. He wakes us up and gets the community out to work. Earls traffic reports help us get to work on time. You never know when there may be two or more people waiting at the same stop sign. His live interviews on community issues help keep the community involved and connected. He first started with KBRW as a volunteer annuncer in 1985 and served as News Director from 1988-93. He's been doing the current morning announcer/interviewer shift since 1998. Oh, also a big Chicago Cub and Steppenwolf fan.
