Silakkuagvik Communications, Inc. is the licensee of noncommercial educational station
KBRW-AM and KBRW-FM, Barrow, Alaska, which comprise the employment unit.

Job Recruitment

KBRW had one full-time job opening which was recruited for and filled during this
reporting period.

(i) Position(s) filled during this reporting period: NEWS DIRECTOR

(ii) Recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy:

• The vacancy was advertised on public radio station KBRW-AM, broadcast in
  the communities of Barrow, Atqusuk, Nuiqsut, and Wainwright
• The vacancy was advertised on the KBRW system of translators in the
  villages of Pt. Hope, Pt. Lay, Anaktuvuk Pass, and Kaktovik
• The vacancy was advertised on the National Public Radio (NPR) job-posting
  site
• The vacancy was advertised on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting job
  posting site
• The vacancy was advertised with the Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN)
• The vacancy was posted with the Alaska Broadcasters Association (ABA)

(iii) 17 persons applied for the vacancy

• 3 responded to the APRN advertisement
• 14 responded to the CPB/NPR website ad

(iv) Of the 17 applicants, 3 were selected for final interview. Two of the initial three
selected for interview were hired by other broadcast outlets prior to being
interviewed. Both of those two had responded to the CPB posting. Two more
names were added to the interview list, one was a respondent to the APRN posting,
the other two had responded to the CPB posting.

Outreach Activities

• KBRW continues to participate with the North Slope Borough Mayor’s Office
  job training program, helping develop employability skills in those seeking entry-
  level jobs
